100 Items to Disappear in an Emergency First

Have you seen the pictures of grocery store shelves right before a big hurricane or tornado hit?

They are completely empty.

I was at an emergency preparedness fair recently and they were handing out this list of 100 items that disappear first when a disaster happens. I don't necessarily agree on the order and this is for major disasters where you won't see help for a long time. I'm not suggesting you go stock pile all of these things but it is interesting to think about.
  1. Generators (good ones will cost a fortune)
  2. Water filters/ purifiers
  3. Portable Toilets
  4. Seasoned Firewood (wood takes about 6-12 months to become dried for home uses)
  5. Lamp Oil, wicks. lamps (if you have a choice by clear oil)
  6. Coleman Fuel
  7. Guns, ammunition, pepper spray, knives, clubs, bats and slingshots
  8. Hand can openers
  9. Honey/ Syrups/ white & brown sugar
  10. Rice, beans, wheat
  11. Vegetable oil
  12. Charcoal, Lighter Fluid
  13. Water Containers
  14. Propane Cylinders
  15. Survival guide books
  16. Mantles: Aladdin, Coleman etc
  17. Baby Supplies: Diapers/ formula, ointments/ medicine (can you imagine being without diapers...)
  18. Washboards, mop bucket w/ wringer (for laundry)
  19. Cookstoves (propane, coleman and kerosene
  20. Vitamins
  21. Propane Cylinder Handle-holder (small canister use is dangerous without this item)
  22. Feminine Hygiene/ Haircare/ skin products
  23. Thermal underwear
  24. Bow saws, axes and hatchets
  25. Aluminum foil
  26. Gasoline containers
  27. Garbage bags
  28. Toilet paper, kleenex, paper towels
  29. Milk: powdered and condensed
  30. Garden seeds
  31. Clothes pins/ line and hangers
  32. Coleman's pump repair kit
  33. Tuna fish (in oil)
  34. Fire Extinguishers or baking soda

  100. For some reason there was no number 14 so I guess these are only the first 99 things to disappear
